I am the moon's two spirit child / activist born between bordered river / creator of quakes in white supremacist's throat / generational wisdom keeper of receipts / organized Indian storytelling revolutionary existence / liberation of singing tongue once silenced - I am not silent /
I am a border breaking poet, cultural educator, social justice organizer, and a first generation graduate from the University of Texas at Austin.
My work is rooted in my lived experience as an Indigenous Queer activist (Chichimeca & Coahuiltecan), poetry and education are the vessels for liberation that I breathe into community spaces.
The stories I share are ancestral and revolutionary — banned book material. I share and expose stories from current events, lived experience, oral history, and social justice movements — teaching truth to our youth.

Experience
Texas House of Representatives
In the 89th legislative session I worked as a legislative aide for Texas House Representative Aicha Davis, who is also a Former State Board of Education Member. I have extensive knowledge in policy, social justice, and higher education and public education. In this position I staffed committee hearings, assisted in policy, built strong relationships with advocates, constituents, and organizations across the state.
“I was immediately struck by their passion, deep knowledge, and fearless voice for justice. So much so, that when I transitioned into the Texas House of Representatives, I personally asked Maxochitl to join my office — a decision I have been grateful for every day since.”
- Representative Aicha Davis
The Poet House
I serve the Board of The Poet House which amplifies Black and Brown spoken word poets through our every.Word Poetry program in Austin, Texas. We host weekly open mics, themed social justice events and productions, and create opportunities for artists. One program I take lead on is Poesia Cada Palabra — the only open mic in Austin TX dedicated to spanish/spanglish speaking poets and musicians, created to open a brave space for identities woven in resistance. Under our Courageous Cadence program, I serve as a teaching artist for our Spoken Word Residency titled Rhythms in Resistance for local youth.
Land Justice Community School
Formerly known as Start Empowerment and founded by Alexia Lecerq, this organization is a collective of artists, organizers, and educators advocating for environmental justice and social change through anti-colonial education.
In my role as Creative Director, I curate art activism through our Land Justice Arts and Education Lab designed for movement building in our community through workshops, art building, and educational teach ins.
The Native American Cultural Center
I serve as a Cultural Educator and Curriculum Designer for the Native American Cultural Center — an established Native American and woman-led non-profit 501c3 with a 33-year history of providing cultural education in communities across Texas. Our mission is to preserve the traditions and culture of American Indians, and to support the health and education needs of our youth and families. We offer weekly and monthly programming to connect and nurture our community in Austin. We also host the Austin Powwow which is the largest single day powwow in the United States and Native American Heritage Festival.
